2024 celebrates the 40th finish of La Flèche Wallonne Hommes at the top of the Mur de Huy, the vertiginous climb that has crowned the greatest champions. But 2024 is also marked by significant changes to the final kilometres of the course and schedule of the Women’s race whose champions have graced the Mur de Huy since 1998. Like the men, the race’s list of winners illustrates its severity, demands, and uniqueness. The Netherlands’ Anna van der Breggen, winner seven times, and Marianne Vos, winner on five occasions, dominate the list of winners, including Italy’s Fabiana Luperini and Welshwoman Nicole Cooke, each of whom has won three times. In 2023, another great rider from the Netherlands, Demi Vollering, dominated the peloton on the ascent of the Mur, and it’s a safe bet she can repeat this year. In any case, the race promises to be exciting and will undoubtedly contribute to making this magnificent Ardennes classic a tremendous cycling festival. While Huy’s status as a tourist destination strengthens a little more each year, as the reopening of the cable car in April perfectly illustrates, cycling, La Flèche Wallonne and the Mur are ideal for promoting Huy worldwide. We’re proud of that... Long live La Flèche Wallonne, and long live cycling in Huy!
