Demi Vollering: “My teammates were so strong”

April 22 nd 2026 - 18:14

Demi Vollering (FDJ United - Suez): "I’m really happy to win and in an impressive way I guess. I have no idea what happened behind, I never looked back. I only did it just before the finish and I saw Puck [Pieterse] coming. She scared me, for sure: ‘Oh my god, I still need to do a sprint I guess.’ I just really trusted my own pace and didn’t want to have any regrets afterwards. In the end, it’s not so much about tactics, it’s about having the legs and going really really deep. It can be scary because you don’t want to blow up on such a climb, you would end up going backwards."

"It doesn’t really matter what the others do. If they’re stronger, like Puck was last year, that’s how it is. I knew I needed to go early. I went full gas and I really pushed myself over the line. Now I’m sure she’ll make a plan to beat me next year!"

"I went past Elise [Chabbey] after an incredible lead-out from my teammates. I’m really proud of the girls. It was a hard day for them but we did really good. Évita [Muzic] was in the first break and it was a perfect group. Other teams had to control it. At one point, it was only two riders in front but my teammates were so strong they kept riding. Sometimes I pushed them over the limit I think… I am really proud of them and what we’ve been doing so far this year. It’s also good for what’s coming ahead of us."
